Dragster or Firestorm

February 28th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in RC Car Deals
Today I was looking at the prices for an rc dragster. With all the accessories and a lipo battery plus a few spares the price of the dragster came up to 2. The thing is I was looking around and I found the HPI Firestorm which also costs 2.
I asked a few of my friends which one I should get and they all said the Firestorm. I have wanted a dragster for a really long time, but is it a smart choice? The only place I can run the dragster is at a park a few blocks down the street. But I can run the Firestorm any where. So should I go with the dragster or the Firestorm? Thanks everybody I have gained a lot of knowledge from this forum!

A good 5 or 6 cell lipo ESC

February 28th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in RC Car Deals
I was looking for a decent 5 or 6 cell esc, any ideas? it doesn't need to have a BEC built in but I would like to have reverse if possible :)

I already have a esc up to 9 cells but it doesn't have reverse or brake on demand.

What I mean by that is that you are either going forward or stopping... there is no neutral which is really annoying, and there is a rather long delay between brakes and throttle.

Thanks for any help, Derek

So how is the health of R/C?

February 28th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in RC Car Deals
How is it these days? Around here, I never see anyone running their cars or trucks any more. Since our shop closed, it seems like an R/C dead zone. Ironically though, many stores like 7-11 and the grocery store now carry a few R/C car magazines, which was unheard of 5 years ago. Some even carry multiple titles! How is it in your area? Has the market grown or shrunk in the last 5 years?

Motor vs Mech brakes

February 28th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in RC Car Deals
I have seen a lot of posts about mech vs motor braking and I am not here to debate one being better than the other, but I was able to capture some Eagle Tree info that was very interesting and wanted to share. Anyways I have two brushless 1/8 scale buggies, an SH Z-Car with mech brakes front and rear, and a Losi 8ight with motor brakes and a Smart diff (center). I bascially made two runs, one at about 3/4 throttle then brake, and then another at full throttle then brake. As you can see in the graphs the first one (Losi) shows the pack voltage dropping when accelerating, then when the brakes come on there is a slight amount of positive voltage, something to do with "regenerative" braking. Then the second graph shows the mech braked buggy, and there is no positive spike (no motor braking = no regenerative effect), it's pretty flat. Yeah I know, to much time on my hands.

Latest race news from Speed Passion:

Speed Passion team driver Mike Haynes “made the show” in all five classes he entered at the 2009 Snowbird Nationals in Kissimmee Florida. Mike used Speed Passion ESCs in all five classes, and Speed Passion motors in four of the five (spec motors were used in the VTA class).

Speed Passion ESCs and motors continue to excel in all forms of RC racing from on road, offroad, mini and even the emerging electric 8th scale class.

“The growth of this brand is just fantastic! Results like these do help, but our strength has really been growing the brand by word of mouth among racers and excellent customer service for our dealers and users. I’m beyond excited that in just over a year, Speed Passion has come from just another new brushless brand on the market to being a solid and legitimate option among the few top brands of racing electronics” - Shawn Palmer

Mike’s Speed Passion results at Snowbirds:

17.5 Foam 1st using LPF 2.0 & SP 17.5 Motor
17.5 Rubber 2nd using LPF 2.0 & SP 17.5 Motor
VTA TQ & 1st using GT 1.1
13.5 Foam 4th using GT 1.1 & SP 13.5 Motor
10.5 Rubber 10th using GT 1.1 & SP 10.5 Motor

“Speed passion was one of the first tunable BL Speedos, and that has always been helpful to me in getting everything set “right”. The Speedo can be cranked up for spec racing, or toned down for faster motors. The new 2.0 Speedo is going to be a great performer all around, but it is especially useful in stock racing.” – Mike Haynes

Speed Passion congratulates Mike for his incredible accomplishment at the ‘Birds this year. With his continued development help and support, we expect even more great results as the year goes on.

"Double Trouble" Jada Chevy Dualley PickUp

"Double Trouble" Jada Chevy Silverado Dualley PickUp

I began my "Double Trouble" series at the Dearborn HW Convention a couple of years back with some '69 GTO's, Dairy Delivery's and Surfin School Buses being raffled off.

Here's the latest Custom in the "Double Trouble Series".

Jada makes the best castings.
All the Zamac metal is clean and smooth as if they new use ingots instead of HW's case which many times appears that they drive around on Heavy Trash Day and gather any old rusting bits of metal to throw in the pot.

Still the usual refinements must be done to assure quality and finish.

This Orange PU is one of four I created this week.
Decals, graphics and interior of each Custom match the color scheme of the truck.

Filed clean, sanded and scrubbed with #3 Steel Wool,
Primered,
ShimrinWhite Basecoat,
SnowWhite Pearl Colorcoat then shot Intercoat Clear for taping,
Intercoat Clear and Candy Pagan Gold Intensifier mix then taped,
Intercoat Clear and Candy Tangerine Intensifier,
Decaled and detailed,
HOK Urethane Clearcoat with a dash of Brilliant Gold Pearl-Ex Powder.

The great thing about Intercoat Clear and Intensifiers is you can easily plan and execute your paintjobs in a simple progression of steps, one on top of the other.
And of course, Intercoat Clear leaves absolutely no line at all when you remove your tape.

All House Of Kolor products, Of Course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stay tuned for the other three,

--CadillacPat the UnCustomizer--

It just keeps getting faster…
